ChesCo OCCUPY PHILLY Support Project: This is our time, folks!
ChesCo OCCUPY PHILLY Support Project - This is our time, folks - personal letter to YOU
This is our time, folks. This is our time to join the growing movement in this country to finally DO SOMETHING that works. This is the time we’ve all been waiting for, and some amazing young people who have taken over CHANGE in this country are leading us all - just as many of us did in years gone-by. Many of you, like me, are “old-style” 60s “radicals” or “liberals.” We’ve lamented for years about “the young” not getting involved. Well, this is the time we’ve been waiting for. My son, age 23, keeps calling me telling me he’s never been happier in his life, he’s never been more thrilled with his generation. He brought tears to my eyes last night when he said, “Mom, these are all of us kids who played sports together, who were Scouts together, who went to school and religious school together, who studied and worked and made it through college and had an American dream. My generation is doing what you guys did in the 60s - finally!” He’s been to OCCUPY now in Chapel Hill and Raleigh, NC, and is planning to take a train up to OCCUPY WALL STREET and to visit OCCUPY PHILLY on his fall break from graduate school. HE’S IN 7TH HEAVEN. Wow! It doesn’t get any better than this, folks! And so are the rest of these young folks. Yesterday, in Philly, I found I’d never been so moved in my life. These young folks are fresh and honest and real and sweet and mannerly and compassionate and committed and loving - they are the kids WE RAISED, and I’VE NEVER BEEN PROUDER IN MY LIFE. Hey, these are the kids we’ve been waiting for - the people we’ve been waiting for, the grown-ups we hoped they’d be. These are the 99%, the movers and shakers of today; they are TOMORROW, the FUTURE. And they are OURS. Dammit, I’m bustin’ with pride and happiness right now. And we can support them - we can go there, but not try to “run” things (as the media are trying to do - they’re really pissing me off) - we can support them with raingear and, later winter-gear, and food and supplies. We in the suburbs, in particular, can be a huge part of this effort by giving to them all they deserve and need. Let’s not let this golden moment go to waste - let’s make sure they can do what they set out to do. And let’s love them more than ever, folks. More than ever!
